Most of the reasons won’t surprise anyone, nor will it surprise anyone that those priests with well-meaning attempts to restore traditional teaching in the Church often drive people away. There are reason for that.
Do we really expect that after several decades of poor or non-existent catechesis that people will stay in the Church when they hear hard truths for the first time in their lives? When we see so many Catholics advocating for evil ideas in the public square, it’s little wonder that many in the pews hold those same beliefs and find the moral teachings of the faith offensive.
