If the offices are in fact sacred, then they ought of themselves to have SOME effect on hallowing the holder, or at least restraining them from the most wicked courses. There is not the slightest indication that it is the offices that a saved, rather than a few men who happen to hold offices who strive for some fidelity or holiness?
