. . . from freshly-ordained “Other Christs” to exhausted
functionaries?
The Afro-American foundress [ Missouri ?? ], who
was discovered incorrupt by her Religious Benedictine
community, INSTANTLY [ once the news got
out ] drew countless “Holy Hungry” Catholics and
believers . . . FROM ALL OVER !
This not to say that “exhausted” 3 – 5 Parish “ciruit-riders”,
highly mobile Pastors, can’t become Saints; surely some/
many? will be found to be such with time.
Perhaps the “human speed” of yesteryear HAS become
the “high speed” of today, what with the perfection of autos
‘n pick-ups ‘n buses . . speed LIMITS notwithstanding.
Key to the “drying up” of vocations still remains the
Eucharist. Holiness is born from It’s “Source and
Summit”, from the Apostolic Mass, the Offering and
Sacrifice of its Victim, the Adoration of His Real Presence.
. . . A N D from home-schooled Catechesis by Parents who
know and live the Sacramental Life of the Church.
Ven. Fulton Sheen, in his autobiography —Treasure
in Clay —details the source of vocations in two chapters:
one, “The Hour of Power” [ 1 hour of Eucharistic Adoration,
daily, which totalled 60 years for the good Bishop ];
the second, he takes note of one Bishop who got all the
first and second grade kids in his Diocese to pray
for more Priests . . resulting in a “bumper crop”.
God cannot reject the petitions of “little ones”
[ ” . . whose Angels ever stand before the Father” ].
Looks like resolute prayer and fasting [ from foods,
feasting, and the glut of Social Media ] are urgently
called for.
Prairie Grandpa here is presented by endless
golden moments to meditate on prairies, foothills,
and mountains surrounding him, and the “wall-to-wall”
dramatic BIG SKY umbrelling the whole.
His final challenge still remains: becoming REALLY
hungry and not caving into temptations of professionally
photographed gluttonous portions on restaurant menus
offered all around town.
Normally a slice of cheese on brown bread does
the “trick” . . or a quickly-nuked tube steak
[ hot dog ].
