Plus: one German bishop had the good sense to ask the Holy Father to help clarify the synodal mess before Germany goes completely off the deep end.

  1. Regarding Leo’s definition of synodality: in a meeting with a group of pagans, jews, protestants and others who had come for the inaugural mass, Leo commented that synodality and ecumenism are closely related and stated: “I intend to continue Pope Francis’s commitment to promoting the synodal character of the Catholic Church, and developing new, concrete forms of ever-more-intense synodality in the ecumenical field.” This was reported by en.news but seems (so far) to have been ignored by other news outlets and podcasters.

  2. With respect to Inaugural Mass attendees not kissing Pope Leo’s ring; perhaps the videos of Pope Francis humiliating people who by rudely pulling his hand away from people attempting to perform the correct means of greeting him sent a clear message not to attempt that.
