Pope Francis and the Grand Master of al-Azhar sign a document on ‘Human Fraternity’ that is reminiscent of many secular values, including universalism and exclusivity.
While I don’t think anyone should object to the Church taking a public stance against most of the ills outlined in this document, confirming the Saracens in their errors is itself a great error, and coming from the pope it would normally be deeply disturbing but, by now, most Catholics who are paying attention are used to it. And that is a tragedy.
