My take on “promotions” and “demotions” :
1st , your observations seem totally on target. No surprise about McElroy ? Move a Cardinal from an illegal migrant haven where Catholic NGO’s serve as travel agency, “promote” to D.C. where politics fights over the money, & a two for one !!!
The elevation serves to eliminate the “gayness is good” USA Democratic Party political agenda from scrutiny by putting the charity of “sanctuary” 1st; the Church charitable to offer refuge & sanctuary for those who come desirous to enter the promise land. Catholic NGO’s then get $ and give to “them” government $ ( tax dollars ) such that money can be “laundered” for cash gifts , phone , roof , travel , medical care , education, & legal representation. Church politicians representing themselves as a typological expression of an Elizabeth Ann Seaton social justice warrior, bringing souls to Christ ? AND the added benifits , by elevating a motivation of charity in mission, it diminishes the political scrutiny upon clerical sexual activity choices, tax payor funded mutilation medicine, civil “marriage” as sacramental, & tax payor funded baby killing .
All McElroy needs to do as Church politician is maintain his ability to listen ( Synodality ) !
