Yeah, Diarmuid is pronounced Dermott by Anglophones—that’s the closest to what Gaelic speakers say that an Anglophone can get. (But pronunciation of Irish Gaelic is fairly variable by region.) The spelling is sometimes Anglicized to that, too. The good cleric’s surname, by contrast, IS Anglicized in spelling. I believe Martin would be an Anglicization of Ó Máirtín.

I’ve nothing to say about Irish orthography. The most irregularly spelt language in the world is English. People who live in glass houses…

This episode was one of the most sobering yet.

I shall be interested to read the book clearing Malachi Martin.

Perhaps now would be a good time for people to build good relationships with traditional priests. Who knows what might be coming and if it will even be possible to get the sacraments in future? A certain person has been threatening another pandemic in the guise of warning about it for some time, for example.
