“Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, is the concupiscence of the flesh, and the concupiscence of the eyes, and the pride of life, which is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God, abideth for ever. Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that Antichrist cometh, even now there are become many Antichrists: whereby we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us; but that they may be manifest, that they are not all of us. But you have the unction from the Holy One, and know all things,” 1 John 2:15-20
You know that there are problems when the media is fawning over something done by a prelate of the Church. This is especially true of Pope Francis, who recently told a victim of clerical sex abuse that his same sex attraction was okay because ‘God made him that way.’ Aside from the total lack of scientific evidence supporting the idea that SSA is natural or genetic, statements like this fly in the face of 2000 years of Catholic tradition and Scripture. And we can bet that the mainstream Catholic media will be scrambling to explain how statements like these are fully in keeping with the teachings of the Church. It would be amusing if the stakes weren’t the salvation of souls.
For those not quite familiar with what the Church has always said about Same Sex Attraction, let’s look to St. Augustine of Hippo: “Those offences which be contrary to nature are everywhere and at all times to be held in detestation and punished; such were those of the Sodomites, which should all nations commit, they should all be held guilty of the same crime by the divine law, which hath not so made men that they should in that way abuse one another. For even that fellowship which should be between God and us is violated, when that same nature of which He is author is polluted by the perversity of lust,” (Confessions Book III).
These sins violate the relationship between humanity and God. That is the nature of sin. But same sex attraction constitutes something more. It is a sin that cries to heaven for justice (Gen. 19:5-13). God punishes societies, including the people of God themselves. Chastisement is coming for all of us. Do penance.
